Hi friends !
Today I propose you an article about my favorites of Norway, where I have been recently traveling with a friend. I will write this article in two distinct parts. The first one will be about Tromso, and the second about the Lofoten islands…
FLIGHT DIRECTION TROMSO !
I took a flight in the direction of Tromso, a city located almost at the Northernmost point of Norway. With 70 000 inhabitants, it is the third largest city of Norway (after Oslo and Trondheim). It is also the biggest city located above the polar circle. You can find in Tromso the northernmost Catholic Church and University in the world, impressive isn’t it ?!
WHAT CAN YOU SEE IN TROMSO ?
In Tromso, you can also watch a movie in the oldest cinema of Europe still in use ! Unfortunately for us, a movie was already screened when we wanted to visit the movie theater, so we couldn’t enter.
We didn’t stay in Tromso during a long time (only one day), therefore, we only had time to visit the essentials. We did a tour in the city center, which is cute and quick to cross (10 minutes walk). One finds there nice boutiques and attractive restaurants, but expensive (as the rest of Norway).
In the heart of Tromso, you can find a huge brewery, which produces beer that you can try in the bar just in front (the bar is called Ølhallen coffee). The beer produced in this brewery is then exported in the whole country and even abroad. I took a Pilsner and honestly, it was one of the best beers I have tried so far. Norwegian people and especially fishermen are used to take a beer in this bar coming back from the sea in the late morning. So don’t worry, there is no time to go there !
SOMETHING YOU SHOULD NOT MISS !
Most of all, you should visit the city’s point of view (“Tromsø Utkikkspunkt”), which offers a breathtaking panoramic view. To get there, take one bus in the city center in order to get to the other side of the bank, or cross the huge bridge on foot. In this case, you will need to walk around 20 minutes. Then the cable car will be indicated by signs. It is also possible to climb the hill on foot for the more adventurous (or those who have more time). Once at the top, let yourself be surprised by the wonderful landscapes of Norway …
